Infestation of scalp by pediculus humanus capitis mostly in children leading to itching and scratching and secondary infecton with cervical lymphadenopathy. Confirmed by examination with hand lens. Nits are their white oval shaped eggs.
Treatment
Permethrin liquid or cream or Pyrithrin applied to scaplp, rinsed to saturate hair and scalp and washed after 10 minutes. Destroys lice in a few minutes. Persistetn pruritus not an indication for reapplication. Prevention by contact with hair, head gear, combs and clothing of infestated persons.
